IOWA BAR EXAMINATION MAKES THE GRADE FOR BREASTFEEDING MOMS

Scales of Justice

As a follow-up to our previous blog posts about the rights of breastfeeding mothers in the workplace and innovative things employers can do to help employees, we are pleased to highlight a recent change made by the Iowa Board of Law Examiners to accommodate breastfeeding mothers taking the bar examination.  As part of an effort lead by the ACLU of Iowa, ACLU, and Law Students for Reproductive Justice, moms taking the bar examination will now be permitted off-the-clock time to pump, if necessary, and will be provided a private, sanitary place to do so.  With this change, the national ACLU and Law Students for Reproductive Justice has raised its “grade” from a C to an A- for its bar exam breastfeeding policies.
